Speaker Bio
Johnson Yang is a partner at General Catalyst, a venture capital firm that partners with founders from seed through growth stages and beyond to build companies that withstand the test of time. At General Catalyst, Johnson partners with Founders re-imagining the future of how consumers will spend their time, attention, and emotional energy across all aspects of day-to-day life. He’s been fortunate to get to work with the founders at companies like Bilt Rewards, Bloom & Wild, Blank Street, and Hallow among others predominantly in consumer internet and fintech. In the past 2 years, he has also had the humbling experience of driving the incubation of a Payments Company focused on Emerging Markets through our Creation strategy. He is based in New York.
Prior to joining GC, Johnson started his career at Insight Partners as the firm’s first undergraduate hire onto the Onsite Strategy and Analytics team. In his dual role, he both evaluated investment opportunities and provided operational support to disruptive software and internet businesses, developing a multifaceted view of what “good” looks like, as well as the levers to pull and metrics to monitor for guiding efficient growth. He learned to admire the beauty of recurring revenue / high repeat business models that captivate customers with a wedge product and earn the right to build broader platforms.
Johnson graduated from the University of Michigan with a BBA in Finance and Strategy.
