"Randy Lanier is a former American race car driver and convicted marijuana smuggler. Born in the 1950’s in Lynchburg Virginia Lanier rose to prominence in the 1980’s as a talented driver in the IMSA Camel GT series, winning races, and championships, including the 1984 IMSA GTP championship and the 1986 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year award.
However, his racing career was cut short when he was arrested in 1987 and subsequently convicted of smuggling marijuana. Lanier was sentenced to the remaining balance of his life. Despite his tumultuous past, Lanier’s legacy as a skilled driver continues to be remembered in the racing community
After serving 27 years in prison, Lanier became a behavioral health technician working in substance-abuse treatment centers .
His recent published book “Survivor of the Fastest”became a best seller. He has a documentary on the Netflix’s series, call bad sport. Currently Lanier is the CEO of freedomgrow. A nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting non-violent marijuana offenders and their families.
