Speaker Bio
Scott Vasterling’s prolific career blends decades of leadership in health and wellness marketing and sales with his family’s thriving Humboldt farming, distribution and restaurant businesses. As founder of Humboldt Family Farms, Vasterling guides the vision and daily business operations of the Humboldt-based entity that supports regional family-owned farms, including his own.
His foray into Humboldt farming began in 2007 when he and his wife Alice formed Humboldt Family Farms to grow produce for their local cafes, The Beachcomber. Now, his main farming related business cultivates and distributes local produce and cannabis from the Humboldt region to the rest of the State. His depth of expertise in health and medicine, sales and distribution has proved to be a potent combination that benefits his businesses as well as local Humboldt farmers.
Vasterling spent two decades in the health and wellness industries working for leading global and Fortune 100 companies including Johnson & Johnson, and most recently Novo Nordisk, supporting rural medical staff and institutions with education promoting health and wellness. Through his tenure in healthcare, Vasterling successfully navigated the idiosyncrasies of these heavily regulated industries working day in and day out with the FDA.
In addition to his daily entrepreneurial duties, his commitment to policy is evident. Vasterling currently sits on CA DCC Cannabis Advisory Committee and previously sat on the Board of Directors of the Humboldt County Growers Alliance (HCGA) with over 200 state licensed cultivators, and the Cannabis Distribution Association (CDA), to support family farmers with a smooth transition into an incredibly regulated business environment.
Vasterling’s passion for his business is rivaled only by his passion for the outdoors. A seasoned “thru-hiker,” he has backpacked several monumental long-distance trails including the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail and the Arizona Trail.
